Residents in a Cornish village have been left isolated as an outage has meant they have had no internet or phone service for weeks. Locals in North Trekeive, near Liskeard, first encountered the issues on October 6 and have no idea when their service will be restored.
It has been claimed that a number of providers have been affected as a result, including Sky, EE, and BT. This has led to many villagers losing all means of contact, with no good mobile signal, landline or internet connection.
One resident, Jean Bignell, said the situation has been very “frustrating” for her as she has rheumatoid arthritis and relies on her phone signal to contact her family in an emergency. It also means she and others in the village who have disabilities can’t do their shopping online.
“I have no 4G or 3G, so I have to stand in the window to talk on the phone,” Jean told CornwallLive. “If you need a lifeline, it’s hard to get because I’ve been struggling to talk to my family.
“Most of us do our shopping online due to our disabilities and have had to struggle to go to the shops due to not having internet. I also pay a subscription for Netflix but unfortunately I’m unable to access it. That is a waste of money as well.”
It’s the second time in just a few months that this issue has occurred in the village. Jean said there was another outage in early August which left them without internet or phone service for three weeks before it was repaired. However, it is understood that this was unrelated to the current outage.
