ITV Coronation Street actress hasn’t ‘stopped crying’ as co-star announces exit
Coronation Street fans will be saying goodbye to one character later this year after 14 years.
Taking to social media on Monday 6 January, Colson Smith, who plays Craig Tinker, revealed that he would be leaving the cobbles in 2025.
Sharing a picture of himself in character, Colson, 26, who first joined the ITV soap in 2011, penned: “Autumn last year I was told that Craig Tinkers time on the Cobbles is to come to end in 2025.
“I’ve LOVED every single second of my 14 year stay as a resident on the GREATEST street in the world. I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in, on and around Coronation street.

“I’ve learnt pretty much everything about life from the people who call it home. I’m excited to play out the exit story for Our Craigy. For Me, this is just the end of the beginning. I genuinely can’t wait to see what chapter 2 has in store for me. LONG LIVE THE COBBLES.”
Colson’s co-stars and 207K followers were quick to respond to the post as Lucy Fallon, who plays Bethany Platt, penned: “Now that i’ve stopped crying about it, i can’t WAIT to see you slay the day. x”.
Elsewhere, Tina O’Brien, who plays Sarah Platt, wrote: “Love you Cols” with heart emojis, Sally Ann Matthews, who plays Jenny Connor, put: “Grandma loves ya and can’t wait to watch you fly! x”, Channique Sterling-Brown, who plays Dee-Dee Bailey, said: “We love you” while Georgia Taylor, who plays Toyah Battersby, added: “We love you Cols.”
It comes as Sue Cleaver will be leaving her role as Eileen Grimshaw after 25 years this year and soap watchers recently bid farewell to Helen Worth’s Gail Platt after 50 years.

Away from Coronation Street, Colson has already been trying his hand at a few different things over the past few years. In 2022, he competed on ITV’s The Games and last year he was one of the contestants on Celebrity Big Brother, finishing in third place.
More recently, Colson jetted to the Australian jungle for I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! spin-off show Unpacked. The actor also hosts his own podcast, On The Sofa, with co-stars Jack P Shepherd, who plays David Platt, and Ben Price, who plays Nick Tilsley.
