The wild and unpredictable Big Brother 26 three-nominee twist will most likely return for Big Brother 27. During the Big Brother 26 pre-jury part of the game, the houseguests were subjected to a new twist: the BB A.I. Arena. The twist required the Head of Household (HOH) to nominate three players for eviction instead of the usual two. After the Power of Veto competition and ceremony, the three houseguests who remained on the chopping block battled it out live for safety, just moments before the live eviction votes were cast.
In an interview with EW, Big Brother executive producer Allison Grodner shared that the three-nominee twist will most likely return for Big Brother 27, although the A.I. theme will be different. She explained, “I think the A.I. arena was a big success, and we’ve learned a lot from it. I think it’s something that as we look towards the summer, nothing’s ever going to be exactly the same. We love mixing things up. But I think the essence of that, it’s very likely to be carried forward.”
Allison shared that the BB A.I. Arena twist was created because, in recent seasons, there were no longer any competitions during the Thursday live eviction episodes. She explained, “The Head of Household competition had quite a few times moved out of that episode. So we really felt like we needed to service the live eviction episode and amp it up, and I think we did.”
Executive producer Rich Meehan added, “Creatively, [what] we really wanted to try was to make the live episode more unpredictable and make it more exciting and entertaining. We felt like it kind of got into a little bit of a pattern over the last few years where there was a lot of unanimous votes.“
Rich explained that the BB A.I. Arena “made the live show more unpredictable. It created kind of a must-see event of what’s going to happen, and hopefully it was part of the reason why we didn’t have one-sided votes. The live show was more dramatic. From a viewerâs perspective, you never know what’s going to happen, which is really the goal.” Allison added that Kaitlyn Herman’s puzzle failure in Big Brother 20 and Big Brother Reindeer games, in which every challenge had such high stakes, were the inspiration for the BB A.I. Arena.
