Neighbours kept up by ‘absolute racket’ as 200 attend illegal drum and bass rave in Rivington
Furious locals living near Rivington were kept awake until the early hours of the morning by an ‘absolute racket’ as 200 attended an illegal drum and bass rave.
Lancashire Police said ‘loud music, lights, lasers and drones’ wreaked havoc on the beauty spot beside the reservoir, as residents living close by reported hearing loud music blasting from midnight to 2am.
Officers were called out to Liverpool Castle in Rivington, near Horwich, at 1.18am on Sunday (October 27). They arrived to find a huge rave, rammed full of attendees and complete with strobe lighting and speaker systems.
Residents living close to the beauty spot claimed the ‘absolute racket’ kept them awake until the early hours of Sunday morning, with others saying they called in the police due to the noise, which was heard as far as Blackrod and Horwich.
On social media, one woman commented: “Omg! Will someone make it stop! Being a woman of a certain age i usually have the bedroom window open at night, even with it closed I can still hear and feel it booming away…. surely the police must have been out to it?”

“It’s woken me up and I can’t get back to sleep! How loud is it?! Definitely got louder. Surely someone knows where it is hope it stops soon!” said another resident.
A third commented: “Selfish people, whoever they are!” as a fourth said: “Absolute racket!!” and another posted: “Donk, donk, donk. I can hear it clear as day while I’m in bed.”
Videos seen by the Manchester Evening News showed the walls of the historic landmark, built in the early 1900s, lit up red and blue as strobe lights shone out across the area to the sound of booming music.
One resident, who asked not to be named, told the MEN: “Myself and many people living in the area of rivington and Blackrod were kept awake by the loud bass from the rave. I’m a raver myself, however there is a time and a place for an rave and in our quiet community on historical grounds is not the case.
“Luckily I didn’t need to get up early and I am a night owl, but I felt sorry for people who lived closer and had to get up for work. Personally I feel the police took far too long to shut it down.”
At around 2am, partygoers were dispersed by officers. Two men – including a 34-year-old from Stockport – were arrested on suspicion of drug driving. A major clean up operation by the Horwich Clean Up Brigade volunteers took place throughout Sunday.
A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “We were called to Rivington Lane, Rivington, at 1.18am today (October 27) following multiple calls about an illegal rave. Our officers attended and found around 200 people present, as well as loud music, lights, lasers and drones.
“Although the majority of people dispersed when our officers arrived, we dispersed those who remained from the area. Two people were arrested on suspicion of drug driving and remain in custody at this time.
“They are a 21-year-old man from Burnley and a 34-year-old man from Stockport.” The Horwich Clean Up Brigade sent an urgent appeal for volunteers to tidy the site at 3.10am.
